Lazdynai — Architecture of the Hazelnut District

Even if you’ve lived in Lazdynai for years, chances are you’ve never walked through it with the kind of attention that reveals every hidden detail. This district — whose name comes from the Lithuanian word lazdynas, meaning hazelnut — was designed with remarkable care for nature and the future .

And here’s the twist: Although Lazdynai was built during the Soviet era, a time not exactly known for human‑centered urban planning, it became one of the most admired districts in Vilnius. Its architecture and layout were so innovative that Lazdynai received the prestigious Lenin Prize — the highest award the Soviet Union could give for urban design.

On September 7th at 11:00, I invite you to join a 2.5‑hour walking tour through Lazdynai — a journey full of stories, surprises, and places even locals often overlook. The tour will take place in any weather, so please come prepared. And importantly — the entire tour will be guided in English.

We meet at the Lazdynai symbol, the horse sculpture “Rytas”, located right in front of the Maxima store at Architektų g. 152 .
